Camp Rainbow was a joint effort by the Rainbow church in Almaty, Kazakhstan,
brothers and sisters of the churches of Christ all over Russia and the North
Atlanta Church of Christ during the summers of 1999 and 2000. For the year
2001, the Douglas County and Aurora Churhes of Christ in Denver, Colorado,
also participated.
We hosted children from ages 8 - 18 in an American Camp. There was some
resistance to us teaching from the Bible, but we maintained that you cannot
teach the good moral principles of the Unites States without using the same
Bible upon with those principles were founded.
Working with Muslims was a new experience as well. Many of these children
were "pagan Muslims" -- non-practicing.
