November 28, 2006
Greetings from the politically
hot climate in Caracas. Presidential elections
are next Sunday, December 3, and this weekend marked the official closing of
the political campaigns. Thankfully, none of the marches have turned violent
and things have remained relatively calm (compared to previous years). Even
so, I would like to ask y'all to pray for the political situation and peace
in
Venezuela.
Also, please continue to pray for our desperate search for a new meeting
place. Even though we're in the end-of-year slump in the attendance between
the political tension and holiday work schedules, the need is still great. The
hotel is being sold in March 2007 and they will be taking out all of the
meeting rooms. Property value in Caracas (especially in the East) is
extremely high and unaffordable by the congregation. God always provides.
The last time I wrote an e-mail update, I was in Bogota for my final visit
to
encourage the members of that congregation. For many of them, the news that
I
wouldn't be able to go back for a while was shocking and sad, but not as
difficult as the news that Rafael and Sonia Valderrama, the North Bogota
preacher and his wife, will be leaving Bogota for an undetermined amount of
time in April 2007. They have acquired US residency which will allow them to
be closer to their three grown boys, two daughters-in-law and one grandson.
There are a lot of mixed emotions in their transition. Please be in prayer
for the North Bogota congregation and the loss of these faithful workers.
Back in Caracas, we are full with the end-of-year activities and the Bible
studies I'm having with the women preparing them more directly to take greater
leadership and teaching roles. This Saturday, we're going to have a special
recipe exchange and final women's Bible study for the year. Last Saturday,
the young people hiked the steepest trail up Avila Mountain (don't forget to
look at the pictures: www.MichelleMissions.com). The month of December
provides lots of opportunities for fellowship and Christian unity as a family.
I'll be posting those pictures and updating you on those events as they happen.
I pray that all of you can have a happy holiday time as well.
Thank you for your continued prayers for my transition and for the work in
East Caracas. We can't do it without you!
Prayerfully,
M.
