Return to East Caracas 2003

Update sent October 8, 2003 in report of the ladies' conference:
Thanks to all of you for your prayers and interest in the ladies' conference this past weekend. It was a tremendous success with participation from six
Caracas-area congregations. There were over 130 ladies that were able to attend at least part of the conference. We squeezed 95 of us into the room on Sunday afternoon!

There's one amazing story I must share. We have started participation with the World Bible School by internet. This allows us to offer free Bible courses over the internet and then make personal contact with those wanting to study. I sent an e-mail to the director of the Internet World Bible School, which she forwarded to all of our contacts, inviting the ladies to the conference this past weekend. One lady, who lives in San Cristobal, received the e-mail and called her sister here in Caracas to tell her about it. The Caracas sister, Marisela, came and brought six friends. I have studies with two of those ladies this week! Please be praying for Yumelys and Jeanette.

Sharla Marcum and Ann Baker were our visiting speakers for "God in the Virtuous Woman." Kent and Sharla Marcum have worked as missionaries to Quito, Ecuador, for the past almost 15 years. Ann, of Lubbock, Texas, accompanied Sharla for a conference first in Socopo, Venezuela, before coming to Caracas and sharing with us Saturday and Sunday, October 4 & 5. The ladies shared about God being the source of virtue and how, as virtuous women, we can allow God's light to shine through us in all aspects of our lives. Everyone appreciated their sincere openness and sharing from their own life experiences.

Thanks again for your prayers and support. There is not any bit of this that we can do without God's blessing. A special thanks to those of you who are a part of that blessing and support. Keep it up! We are making even more plans and are excited about the future of the work here in east Caracas. Let me give you a brief update on a few of our regular activities:

* Our prayer meetings on Tuesday nights have grown to more than 12-15 each week. Every week we rejoice in the many answered prayers from the week before.

* Our Bible studies on Wednesday nights have also been growing -- more and more visitors with whom we've been able to set up more personal studies.

* Our average attendance for the Sunday morning services has gone up to 25.

* We've had the blessing of starting children's classes on Sunday mornings as well, since we now have so many children in the congregation. The best part is that some of the children of our visitors are bringing their cousins and friends -- and this after already having taught them the kids' songs we sing together!

There's so much more, but I guess you'll just have to come down and check it all out for yourself! ;) Please be in prayer for each of these activities and studies, as well as your participation in this ministry. Thanks again and don't forget to check out the pictures at www.davidagoff.com
